Black & White is back

Back in the mid 1960’s, Paris chose non-colors for its collections. The lines were distinct and the contrast was sharp. A few years before, Chanel had already experimented these on its cap toes, the very famous shoes with a perfect contrast, which a short while later became the leitmotiv of its collections.
And so it is that the most loved combination of the history of fashion, black&white, is about to become insistent once again.

Spring 2010 revives this color combo – provided that someone has lost sight of it – and turns it into one of the certainties of the upcoming season. It little matters if there’s black on white, like the music staff, or white on black, like cream in coffee . The result – we women well know – is always an act of class, a reassuring certainty, a choice capable of providing styles with the right balance.
Extraordinarily chic, white and black create an immediate couture look, whether they appear  as motifs on a sophisticated crêpe de Chine dress or on a pair of  rubber open toe ballerinas, to wear in the daytime and in the evening with preserved elegance.
Marina Rinaldi, who has always dedicated a privileged space to the two colors in its collections, proposes them for the next season on bicolored accessories with Parisian allure, necklaces and swimsuits drawing inspiration from Op Art, bags in technical fabric and monochrome garments to casually combine and to buy up for the upcoming season.

Green light therefore to trench coats, a seasonal “passe-partout”, which in white or in black have always reached their most elegant version. A white shirt, the easy garment “par excellence”, chic and irreplaceable, which Marina Rinaldi has designed with new feminine, embroidered proposals. Also in the spotlight are the stretch cotton pants to match with knitwear and short jackets, strictly aiming at contrasts, for the more active days. Without forgetting the accessories that provide balance to the total white or black look. This is the principle of  Ying and Yang applied to fashion: a black matelassé bag on a pure white dress, a white belt around the waist of a black jersey dress, a satin blouse that peeks out from a black scarf jacket.

Its natural elegance makes it one of the musts in every woman’s wardrobe: so easy and trendy, we really couldn’t do without it!
If at one time it was a synonym for aristocratic style, so much so that writer Oscar Wilde claimed that “Elegance is concentrated in the shirt”, time has proven the versatility of this garment, capable of surprising us with unexpected combinations, never mundane and always up to date.

The Marina Rinaldi fashion proposals for the summer season are dedicated to all those woman who are aware of the discreet and sophisticated charm of a nice white shirt, an all-purpose item that knows no limits, perfect both during the day and in the evening as it lives up to any situation, from the most formal to the most casual.
Consider the glamour of a shirt worn over a pair of jeans: a perfect combination at any time of day.
Simply chic and irreplaceable. A mix of sobriety and elegance that is difficult to find in the other garments in our wardrobe. The white shirt is one step ahead and fits any kind of occasion.

With a few simple moves and the right accessories you can completely change your look, animating that air of respectability that par excellence every white shirt carries in its DNA. Moving from the sober pairing with black, so lofty and glamorous, to the ethno-chic of total white through to more sporty solutions thanks to cool ton sur ton with khaki and warm Saharan colours. In cool stretch cotton poplin, the new Marina Rinaldi shirts offer the maximum in comfort and style.
Romantic, casual, with a severe cut or finely embroidered; they will be the centrepiece of the spring season, so bright and airy.
It is essential to choose the model that brings out the best in us.

To avoid emphasising the hips, easy models are ideal, with fitted and fluid lines, playing on soft lengths and clever tailoring to lighten the silhouette.
While to enhance the décolleté and give the impression of a narrower waistline, choose a shirt with a masculine collar that wraps around to create a belt effect. Very glam!

Marina Rinaldi and Tatjana Patitz:
the appeal of true elegance

Often such a perfect alchemy is created between model and maison that it can only lead to excellent results.

This is the case of the Marina Rinaldi brand and top model Tatjana Patitz, the artistic alliance of which, after this winter’s success, will continue into the spring-summer season too.
So once more, we will see this splendid model wearing the top garments in the new Marina Rinaldi collection, created for the contemporary woman who loves to combine comfort with style so that she always feels in tune with herself.
And who better to bear witness to this philosophy of life than the queen of the Nineties’ catwalks, who has always been committed to safeguarding the environment and is a proud supporter of a more healthy and natural lifestyle?

Despite the great success that secured her a place on the Olympus of the super models of all time, with a beauty that has often been likened to that of Lauren Bacall and has been celebrated on the covers of the most important fashion magazines, Tatjana Patitz has never lost touch with reality and the true values of life and today, within the pages of Vanity Fair Italy, this splendid forty year old offers her pearls of wisdom that we should all keep in mind.
One of many is the concept of elegance as a personal style.

“Every woman should transform all the fashion products that exist into something that is suitable for their body shape and their lifestyle” declares Patitz. And how right she is. We are the ones wearing the outfit, and not vice versa. To be elegant we must be aware of our strengths and our weaknesses and work on both, only choosing those models from current trends that bring out the best in us, as Coco Chanel often said, “fashion comes and goes, but style always remains”.
Top model Tatjana Patitz, always sensitive to environmental causes and a country-girl by vocation, has found the perfect solution for her wardrobe as a globetrotting mother in Marina Rinaldi outfits.
Following her pregnancy her silhouette has softened. A change that Patitz has accepted with serenity, immediately adoring her new curves, so feminine and so far removed from the diktat of absolute thinness sought by the androgynous and wiry models of recent years.

Rather than count calories, Tatjana prefers to keep in shape with healthy and genuine food and takes plenty of exercise at the family ranch in Malibu where she lives, immersed in nature.
And where she wears her Marina Rinaldi garments, “a brand for real women” that has seen increasing success in the USA thanks to a style that is not just practical and elegant, but, above all glamorous and sporty-chic.
The ideal for allowing every woman to express her personality, by creating her own unique and inimitable style with skilful touches of fashion.

Kate Dillon: host at Global Green Party

On the 8th of December, Marina Rinaldi had an important testimonial at Global Green Party and Fashion Show in San Francisco: the model Kate Dillon.

The event, at its 5th edition so far, was a great success. Different stars were present at Global Green, such as: Leonardo Di Caprio, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Orlando Bloom, Salma Hayek, Kate Bosworth…etc.

Marina Rinaldi had to be there, with her ambientalist effort, even more after starting the capsule MR Soul. Kate Dillon summed up her impressions in this post, an exclusive for the readers of Marina Rinaldi’s blog. Enjoy!

” Since completing a Masters degree in International Development last June, I have been thinking about the relationship between my studies of global poverty and environmental sustainability and my longtime career in fashion and personal passion for beautiful clothes. The fashion industry supports over 30 million garment workers and their families in low-income countries all over the world and is the driver of economic growth in several Asian countries. Further, everybody needs clothes, but often the clothes we love to wear are not the most beneficial for the environment.
I was so excited to learn Marina Rinaldi had added eco-consciousness to its luxurious and beautifully cut label with the Soul collection of cozy sportswear. I love the collection and am so proud of Marina Rinaldi!

On December 8th I served as honorary host of Global Greens annual Gorgeous and Green fashion show at the W San Francisco. My fellow hosts included San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, models Angela Lindvall and Josie Maran, and actors Peter Mensah and Rosario Dawson.
Global Green is the US arm of Green Cross International and supports green infrastructure projects in schools and low-income housing.

The event featured a fashion show that showcased designers using sustainable textiles such as silk, organic cotton, and bamboo, including organic cotton underwear designer PACT who debuted its latest butterfly pattern designed by artist Sage Vaughn. It was a great party the wine flowed and everyone had a blast watching the models strut to Kings of Leon. I enjoyed talking with Josie about her line of eco-cosmetics and Google Vice-President Salar Kamangar about the future of US climate change policy”.
